They’re worlds apart—or so it seems: sports and computing, automotive and AI, transportation and research. But one thing runs like a golden thread through all these industries: the constant pursuit of speed and progress. More FLOPS, more bytes, more miles per hour. Faster, better, stronger.
The Mainboard superfamily is the Identity Letters approach to expressing these ambitions by means of typography. Mainboard Mono has been developed from a sleek sans-serif typeface equally suited to embodying peak performance in technological and physical fields. Serifs have been applied wherever necessary for harmonic monospaced texture.
The trademark feature of Mainboard Mono is its distinct lack of spurs: lowercase letters such as “g”, “n”, and “r“ gain a smooth, almost aerodynamic appearance. This forward-looking personality has been carefully applied to all characters, even those that come innately without spurs, by gently smoothing curves whenever appropriate.
With on-screen usage in mind, Mainboard Mono has been conceived as a humanist typeface with generous apertures for easy legibility in all resolutions. The rectangular dots are a nod to the “technical” perception of spurless fonts in popular culture and look great in coding environments. They also facilitate correct rendering even on coarse device displays and in minuscule printing on a PCB board. Most monospace fonts are primarily intended for small sizes. The dual nature of Mainboard Mono, on the other hand, shows when typeset large. Stadium-sized court banners, dasher boards, or the entire side of a team truck might sport larger-than-life Mainboard Mono letters, if you will—dynamic curves with monospace proportions are guaranteed to catch the audience’s eye.
Whether you’re going for an AI project, writing reports in high-tech research, designing a campaign in transportation/automotive or computing, or laying out cutting-edge sports publishing: with Mainboard Mono, you have a trusted partner that is as reliable under the hood as on its high-tech surface.
The family of 7 weights is equipped with 500+ glyphs. You can fine-tune it by toggling various stylistic sets and figure sets. Of course, any computer-oriented or sports-related design also needs an optional slashed zero for better character distinction in passwords, source code, and model numbers.
Mainboard Mono is excellent for writing, coding, and standing out on the page. For a more reading-oriented approach, you’ll want to try Mainboard. It’s the proportional sibling and pairs perfectly with Mainboard Mono. This winning combination might give you the edge over those runner-ups breathing down your neck.
If speed or progress, high tech or high performance, technology or sports are your home turf, the Mainboard superfamily will be your tool of choice. It’ll help you stay smart and communicate clearly while you’re chasing world records or coding the future.
