Typographers know it. A good geometric sans will go a long way. Simplicity is key. But sometimes, more nuance is needed. Additional expression. A companion. A typographic partner that is distinct but speaks the same visual language as the sans. Enter Flink Slab.
Flink Slab is a clean geometric superfamily with unbracketed slab serifs. It comes with energetic alternatives for electrifying impact in display sizes. Flink Slab is the ideal companion for Flink Neue, our most versatile geometric sans. Both superfamilies share a common skeleton and vertical metrics, have matching proportions, and provide the same range of widths.
Slab-serif faces have been around since the mid-19th century. Geometric slab serifs really caught traction after the success of 1920s geometric sans designs, with typographers trying to pair the best of both genres. In our times, Flink Slab plus Flink Neue is a winning combination. You can be sure this pair will harmonize right out of the box, without manual adjustments.
We sought to give Flink Slab workhorse qualities. Each font comes with a set of 1300+ glyphs that provides ample language support and allows for numerous typographic adjustments.
Flink Slab’s alter ego is “Flink Slab Voltage”–a subfamily with 54 styles for display use (also accessible via stylistic set in the normal Flink Slab fonts). “Voltage” is imbued with the spirit of Futurism, an important art movement of the early 20th century. The design concept was inspired by the dynamic and progressive visual innovations coined by the futurists, and by their fascination with movement, machines, engineering, and electricity.
The edgy and angular letters of Flink Slab Voltage take an almost brutalist approach to the construction of letterforms, appearing industrial and raw. They can be employed on their own or in conjunction with the “Bauhaus” design program of Flink Neue.
In more than a dozen stylistic sets, you’ll find adjustments to aid legibility or support brand fidelity. Others let you access circled and boxed numbers and arrows in different versions. These facilitate complex user interfaces, forms, and print layouts. Thin interpunction adds a sparkle to titles and headlines. Finally, a bunch of figure sets ensure your numbers will be spot-on, whether in tables, body copy, or mathematical notation.
Flink Slab is available as a static superfamily with a whopping 108 styles (2 subfamilies × 9 weights × 3 widhts × 2 slants). You can also purchase the all-in-one Variable Font for added fine-tuning capability and reduction of online loading time.
This superfamily is well suited to branding, packaging, editorial, and UI/UX design. All Flink Slab fonts will work excellently in business and finance, law, education, retail and shopping, governmental and civic, social media, and industrial projects. The “Voltage” styles in particular lend themselves to more expressive fields, such as activism, food/beverage, culture and performance art, fitness, architecture, film/TV, and gaming. The entire Flink Slab font family is suited to all digital and print media.
Flink Slab is one of the most adaptable geometric slab-serif typefaces around. Combined with Flink Neue, it’s an unstoppable force when striking claims meet clear shapes, rational construction, and typographic expression. This clean design with an electrifying alter ego might be the only geo-slab you’ll ever want.
